چکیده

The economic literature contains many parametric models for the Lorenz curve. A number of these models can be obtained by distorting an original Lorenz curve L by a function h, giving rise to a distorted Lorenz curve (DLC) e L = h L. In this paper, we study, in an uni…ed framework, this family of curves. First, we explore the role of these curves in the context of the axiomatic structure of Aaberge (2001) for orderings on the set of Lorenz curves. Then, we describe some particular models and investigate how changes in the parameters in the baseline Lorenz curve L a¤ect the transformed curve e L. Our results are stated in terms of preservation of some stochastic orders between two Lorenz curves when both are distorted by a common function. Corresponding author. Parametric Lorenz Curves and its Relationship with Reliability Indicators

The problem of poverty can not be considered without paying care to the topic of income distribution. In fact, the concept of poverty refers to the lowest class in the distribution of income, and inequality in the income distribution is related to all stages of society. Based on the income distributions that are unfairly priced, many indices have been developed to measure the size of inequality...

Tsallis Maximum Entropy Lorenz Curves

In this paper, at first we derive a family of maximum Tsallis entropy distributions under optional side conditions on the mean income and the Gini index. Furthermore, corresponding with these distributions a family of Lorenz curves compatible with the optional side conditions is generated. Meanwhile, we show that our results reduce to Shannon entropy as $beta$ tends to one. Finally, by using ac...

Robust Inequality Comparisons

Robust Inequality Comparisons This paper is concerned with the problem of ranking Lorenz curves in situations where the Lorenz curves intersect and no unambiguous ranking can be attained without introducing weaker ranking criteria than first-degree Lorenz dominance. To deal with such situations Aaberge (2009) introduced two alternative sequences of nested dominance criteria for Lorenz curves wh...

Comparisons of different models for lactation curves of fat to protein ratio and somatic cell score of Holstein cows in Iran

A total of 989,582 test-day records of 160,243 first-parity cows collected from 131 herds of Iranian Holstein dairy cows from 1995 to 2014 by the Animal Breeding and Improvement Centre of Iran, were used to determine the best model for lactation curves of fat to protein ratio (FPR) and somatic cell scores (SCS) in the first lactation. Several mathematical models including the Wood (WD), Wilmink...

Hybrid models of the Lorenz curve

In this paper hybrid Lorenz curves are proposed as a way of circumventing an important drawback of traditional models of the Lorenz curve, namely lack of satisfactory fit over the entire range of a given income distribution. Two categories of hybrid models are identified, namely the additive models and the multiplicative models. Whereas the additive models are obtained by taking convex combinat...
